Vielmetter Los Angeles invites guests to join us on May 3rd at 3pm for a conversation between artist Tonia Calderon and entrepreneur Sean Green the occasion of Calderon's solo exhibition Unlearning. Tonia Calderon (b. 1987, San Jose, California) is a visual artist based in Los Angeles. She seeks poetry in everyday life, aiming to offer a shared experience of the beauty of being human. Her work reflects her Mexican, Dutch, Indonesian, and Chinese heritage. In her large-scale paintings, she explores life's complexities through abstract compositions using natural materials and chemical elements. Each of Calderon's pieces begins with a handwritten stanza, setting the tone for a layered process in which flower pigments, natural materials, and contrasting chemical compounds intertwine. This blend of the natural and synthetic reveals the delicate balance between the beauty and fragility of existence, capturing life's rhythms through textured layers and intricate details. Sean Green is the Founder and CEO of ARTERNAL, the leading revenue and relationship management platform built for the art world. Born in Jamaica and raised in Toronto, Sean has spent over a decade at the intersection of art and technology, leveraging his Computer Science degree from York University (Toronto, ON) to build AI-driven solutions that modernize sales operations in the art market. Now based in Los Angeles, he leads ARTERNAL’s expansion, driving innovation to help galleries transition from manual processes to a data-driven, sales-first approach. He serves as a Trustee of the Orange County Museum of Art (OCMA) and is a Partner at Black Operator Ventures (Black Ops VC), a venture fund dedicated to increasing access to capital for top Black founders in tech.
