Kathi Flood’s work narrates urban life, much of it specific to Los Angeles. The title of this show, Sweet Street, refers to her observations and responses to the way people treat each other. She categorizes and comments on local issues such as traffic patterns, over-development, qualities that define a city, and the architecture of Los Angeles. Flood uses sociology and psychology to consider contemporary issues such as telemarketing, surveillance, the complexity of modern life, relationships and communication, fashion, the evolution of media, politics, adjusting to the Information Age, the quality of our medical care, psychotherapy, art marketing, school cultures, consumerism and excessive materialism.
