Rele Los Angeles is pleased to announce Woven Sanctuaries, a group exhibition bringing together the work of seven women artists from Botswana, Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, and Zambia, envisioning worlds of living counter-monuments infused with visceral memories and lineal histories. Utilizing vicarious and cast-off textiles and natural fibers, these artists cultivate dialogues that coexist and collaborate with the past and present. Apparent in each of the works is an intergenerational exchange that speaks to the liminal spaces between grief, loss, joy, wonder, growth and coming of age. In this exhibition, the artists embark on a return; some to physical sites or gestures, others to the comfort and familiarity of imagined spaces that exist beyond geographic orientation. Yet, each of these returns engages in the radical act of remembering. The artists participating in this exhibition are: Rawan Abbas Yoma Emore Elfreda Fakoya Gladys Kalichini Sedireng Mothibatsela Fiker Solomon Agnes Waruguru Opening Reception Thursday, May 2 from 6-8pm 711 N Western Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90029 Image: Fiker Soloman, Web of Life 10, 2023
